Will your New Year be really new? …. If not, try a vision instead of a list!

With New Year coming up, we all have to ask ourselves whether the New Year will be really new, or whether it is just same old, same old.

Will I have new attitudes, a new way of living, new goals, a new sense of what is possible? Or will I just have a new list of resolutions I know I won’t keep?

I suggest that instead of making a list, you actually do a little visioning for the year.  This will engage your intuitive wisdom, not just your thinking mind’s plans for you.

And there is a little twist, in that you will look at a happy and unhappy future and see out how to get to each. Then you not only get to choose which future you truly want, but also you’ll know how to get there.

Believe me, once you’ve learned to do visioning,  your life will advance by leaps and bounds!

Try this:

Do a quick relaxation, whichever you like, or just close your eyes, breathe three times, send your energy down to your feet, and think of somewhere you feel relaxed and go there.

  • Now just imagine it is the end of 2015, and you’re feeling great.  Vividly imagine yourself there with as many senses engaged as you can. Ask yourself this:
  • What am I wearing? Where am I standing or sitting? What is the good feeling? (not what it’s about, but just feel what the feeling is.)
  • What’s the main thing I feel good about? As I look back on the year, what did I do, or what attitude did I have, to get myself here?
  • Specifically, now, what is happening that is new in my personal relationships?  in my work or creative life?  in my relationship to myself?  In my contribution to the world around me? Again, what do I feel best about, and how did I get here?
  • Look back at the person you were at the end of 2014. What’s the most important thing you can whisper to him/her to make this year end up this well?
  • Come back to the present and receive this message.
  • Now imagine it is the end of 2015 and you feel awful! Vividly imagine yourself there with as many senses engaged as you can. Ask yourself this:
  • What am I wearing? where am I standing or sitting?  What is the awful feeling? (not what it’s about, but just feel what the feeling is.)
  • What’s the main thing I feel bad about? As I look back on the year, what did I do, or what attitude did I have, to get myself here?  How is this different than in the first future?
  • Look back at the person you were at the end of 2014. Tell him or her the recipe for ending up feeling this bad!
  • Come back to the present and receive this message.
  • Now which do I want? Can I acknowledge the bit of me that wants the negative future? Can I choose the positive future anyway?
  • Whichever future I choose, I say: I choose X (the feeling at the end of the day). I put the future I want in a bubble in my hand. I say to myself: I ask and intend for this to be. And I release it. (which also means I accept that it may not happen, and I’ll still be okay). Now I blow the bubble out into the domain of potential and watch it disappear.
  • I take the future feeling into my heart and feel it now. Thank you. I am there already.

Once you’ve done this, write a letter to yourself, rather than a list, preferably from the person you will be in December 2015 feeling great. Make it as specific and detailed as possible–not just wise words that you can ignore, but clear instructions so that you’ll know if you’ve done them or not.  If you have a private space, put it on your wall. If not, put it somewhere that is easy to get to and consult.

Now trust yourself, take charge, and make this year a really new year, not only for you, but for everyone around.  Remember the power of the ripple effect and start rippling!
